Lake Keepit Camp

It was a bright and early start to Week 11 for Stage 5 students as they boarded a 7am bus to Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Centre for the Year 9 and 10 Camp. 2018 saw our students undertake a new program with the focus for our Year 9 group being on an extended outdoor adventure and bivouac experience while Year 10 spent the week doing a range of activities aimed at preparing them for the challenge of completing a 30+km Adventure Race.
Times in between activities were spent playing basketball, tennis, soccer or cooling down in the pool. Night times that weren’t spent out camping, (which for Year 9 was only one out of the four nights), involved Minute to Win it challenges, team building activities and a movie night in the homestead.
All students are commended on the positive manner with which they approached all of the challenges that are brought on by outdoor education experiences. Many displayed great strength of character and surprised even themselves with what they can achieve when they approached things with the right attitude. Year 9 is to be congratulated on their final night on bivouac, in which they designed shelters using plastic tarps, ropes and their canoes.
Well done to the Year 10 students who displayed grit and determination in getting through the Aventure Race, which in 2018 comprised of a 7km canoe paddle, 10km of running/rogaining and a 14km bike ride. Special congratulations to Jess Bennett and Harry Stringer, who were part of the winning team. Although we had one student who was unable to physically participate because of a prior injury, she could be seen cheering on the sidelines of all the activities. Teamwork was definitely exhibited throughout both year groups during camp. A huge thank you to our students for showing respect and maturity to each other, teachers and the Lake Keepit staff.
