Sport

At Orange Anglican Grammar School, we recognise and celebrate the profound importance of sports in the holistic development of our students. All students have God given gifts and for some that may be beyond the classroom in the realm of sport. We provide a dynamic platform for fostering essential life skills, instilling values, and promoting physical well-being. Our commitment to sports education goes beyond the pursuit of victories; it encompasses the cultivation of teamwork, resilience, discipline, and leadership.

Engagement in sport not only enhances physical fitness but also nurtures social bonds, encouraging camaraderie and a sense of belonging among our students. At OAGS, we view sports as an integral component of our educational philosophy, serving as a vehicle for character building and personal growth.

Through a diverse range of sporting activities, we aim to cater to the varied interests and talents of our students, fostering a love for physical activity that will last a lifetime. Whether on the field, court, or track, our students learn the value of fair play, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence.

Extra-curricular Sport is an integral part of school life at OAGS and we are committed to providing a range of both competitive and recreational opportunities to students as part of their P-12 schooling experience.

The OAGS Sports Academy is a cross-curricular sporting program that combines school sport and participation in a number of extra curricular sporting competitions in the local area. Our school prides itself on being both competitive and inclusive.

Extra Curricular Sport

OAGS has a strong history of participating in local town based competitions. The school community is encouraged to participate in these teams, with external players also accepted. Teams are created based on age groups and where possible social groupings.

Training sessions are provided for all sports and it is expected that all team members attend these sessions to ensure consistent development of students ability.

In 2024 we have teams playing:

  • Netball
  • Soccer
  • Hockey
  • Touch Football
  • Basketball
  • Water Polo
  • Triathlon
  • Equestrian

Representative Sport Opportunities

OAGS is a member school of HICES (Primary) and AICES (Secondary) sporting associations which provide a representative pathway to Combined Independent Schools (CIS), WAS, NSW All Schools and National teams.

Throughout each year students may have the opportunity to represent OAGS in a wide variety of sports as part of school teams. These opportunities are separate to the PDHPE program and extra-curricular teams. In addition to this there are opportunities for students to access representative pathways in sport.

Our sports department is committed to providing these opportunities for as many students as possible.

For more detailed information about the Primary and Secondary representative pathways, trial dates and the nomination process please email sport@oags.nsw.edu.au

Weekly Sport

All students from Kindergarten to Year 10 participate in timetabled sport sessions each week.

Primary students use the lessons to achieve the outcomes of the PDHPE syllabus. Currently, Primary has sport on Friday afternoons and all activities are designed to develop the fundamental skills in the areas of striking, kicking, catching, hopping and throwing. Each year group will participate in different sports throughout the year.

Secondary students from Year 7 to 10 are given the opportunity to be involved in a range of programs that are designed to increase participation and confidence to develop long term habits of being physically active. Year 7 and 8 have sessions timetabled on Tuesday and Year 9 and 10 are on Wednesdays. Students are given the opportunity to select the sport they wish to participate in from a given list which is emailed to them.
