Chess

Students make use of the opportunity to embrace some of the major qualities, skills and tactics of tournament style chess, couched in good sportsmanship. Under the skilled guidance of a highly-respected local chess extraordinaire. Students learn how to engage strategies such as strong openings, controlling the centre of the board, playing with all your pieces, trapping your opponent, winning back your queen and protecting your king.

A real highlight each year is competing in the local primary schools chess competition. Competing against students from local schools, students experience effective strategic thinking, working well together in teams and modelling to their competitors what the true spirit of the event is - fun and good sportsmanship.
